D1 Chongqing / Dazu Rock Carvings / Chongqing City Tour
Your guide will pick you up from your hotel in Chongqing and drive to Dazu County, located about 2 hours away from the city.
Dazu is home to the remarkable Dazu Rock Carvings, an outstanding representative of Chinese grotto art and a UNESCO World Cultural Heritage Site.
Created mainly between the Tang and Song dynasties, these ancient cliff sculptures feature thousands of Buddhist statues, religious stories, and cultural scenes carved into the mountains. The artworks are famous for their exquisite craftsmanship, vivid expressions, and unique combination of religion, art, and everyday life.
You will have a full exploration of the Dazu Rock Carvings, including the famous Baodingshan Rock Carvings, where you can admire some of the best-preserved and most impressive sculptures.
After lunch, drive back to Chongqing city.
In the afternoon, visit Liziba Metro Station, one of Chongqing’s most fascinating urban landmarks. Here you can witness the famous light rail train passing directly through a residential building, a unique example of Chongqing’s three-dimensional city design.
Continue to the city center and visit the People’s Great Hall of Chongqing, one of the city’s most iconic architectural landmarks. Completed in 1954, the building was designed to commemorate China’s victory in the War of Resistance and the establishment of the new government. Its magnificent traditional Chinese architectural style has earned it recognition as one of the top ten classic architectures of 20th-century Asia.
Your final stop is the Chongqing Stilwell Museum (Flying Tigers Memorial), a historic site related to the Second World War. The museum was once used as an important residence and reception place for VIP guests during the war against Fascism, and today preserves valuable historical memories of that period.
After sightseeing, your guide will transfer you back to your hotel.
