Day 2: Tianzi Mountain – Yuanjiajie – Ten-Mile Natural Gallery
After breakfast, head to the Wulingyuan Scenic Area, the heart of a Zhangjiajie sightseeing experience. Take the cable car up to Tianzi Mountain, one of the best places to appreciate the spectacular sandstone landscape.
The name “Tianzi Mountain” means “Son of Heaven Mountain.” According to local history, Xiang Dakun, a Tujia leader, led an uprising in this area during the Ming Dynasty and was regarded as a local king. The mountain was later named Tianzi Mountain in connection with this history.
From the mountain viewpoints, enjoy sweeping views of forests of towering sandstone pillars rising dramatically from the valleys, with layers of distant mountains stretching toward the horizon. This remarkable landscape forms part of the natural scenery recognized by UNESCO.
Continue to Yuanjiajie, one of Zhangjiajie’s most famous scenic areas. Explore the Back Garden, Mihun Stage (Enchanting Terrace) and the First Bridge under Heaven, a spectacular natural stone bridge connecting two cliffs.
Then visit Kongzhong Tianyuan (Sky Field Garden), a small area of cultivated fields perched on a mountain outcrop and surrounded by Zhangjiajie’s distinctive sandstone peaks.
In the afternoon, descend the mountain by the Bailong Sky Elevator, which provides impressive views of the surrounding cliffs and valleys.
Finally, take the sightseeing train to the Ten-Mile Natural Gallery, a scenic valley framed by towering peaks. Along the route, admire distinctive formations such as the Herb-Picking Old Man and Three Sisters Peaks.
After the sightseeing tour, return to your hotel.
