Day 1: Arrive in Zhangjiajie – Wulingyuan
Upon arrival in Zhangjiajie by flight or high-speed train, your private guide and driver will meet you at the airport or railway station and transfer you to your hotel in Wulingyuan, the gateway to Zhangjiajie National Forest Park.
After check-in, the rest of the day is free for you to relax or take a leisurely walk around Wulingyuan. Enjoy the fresh mountain air and peaceful surroundings before beginning your sightseeing the following day.
Overnight in Wulingyuan
Day 2: Tianzi Mountain – Yuanjiajie – Golden Whip Stream – Ten-Mile Natural Gallery
Meals: Breakfast, Lunch
After breakfast, begin your Zhangjiajie adventure in the Wulingyuan Scenic Area, the core scenic region of Zhangjiajie. Take the cable car up to Tianzi Mountain, one of the best places to appreciate the area’s spectacular sandstone landscape.
The name “Tianzi Mountain” means “Son of Heaven Mountain.” According to local history, Xiang Dakun, a Tujia leader, led an uprising in this area during the Ming Dynasty and was regarded as a local king. The mountain was later given the name Tianzi Mountain in connection with this history.
From the mountain viewpoints, enjoy sweeping views of forests of towering sandstone pillars rising dramatically from the valleys, with layers of distant mountains stretching toward the horizon. This extraordinary landscape forms part of the natural heritage recognized by UNESCO.
Continue to Yuanjiajie, one of the most famous scenic areas in Zhangjiajie. Explore highlights such as the Back Garden, Mihun Stage (Enchanting Terrace) and the First Bridge under Heaven, a spectacular natural stone bridge connecting two cliffs.
Then continue to Golden Whip Stream, a peaceful valley surrounded by towering sandstone cliffs and pillars. Follow the scenic trail along the clear stream and admire famous formations such as Golden Whip Rock, Eagle Protecting the Whip and the area around Water Winding Four Gates.
Finally, take the sightseeing train to the Ten-Mile Natural Gallery, a picturesque valley framed by dramatic peaks. Along the route, admire distinctive formations including the Herb-Picking Old Man and Three Sisters Peaks.
After the sightseeing tour, return to your hotel in Wulingyuan.
Overnight in Wulingyuan
Day 3: Huanglong Cave – Tongren Airport – Departure
Meals: Breakfast, Lunch
After breakfast, take a sightseeing bus to Huanglong Cave, one of the most impressive karst caves in the Zhangjiajie region. Explore its spectacular underground landscape, including the Dragon King’s Palace and the famous Magic Needle, a remarkable stalactite formation.
You will also enjoy a boat ride along the underground river, adding an exciting element to your exploration of the cave.
After lunch, transfer by road to Tongren Fenghuang Airport for your onward flight.
