Khanka Lake
Located on the border between Heilongjiang Province in Northeast China and Primorsky Krai in Russia, Khanka Lake (Xingkai Lake) is one of the largest freshwater lakes in Northeast Asia. Situated about 120 kilometers from Jixi City, this transboundary lake covers a total area of approximately 4,190 square kilometers, with around 3,030 square kilometers in Russia and 1,160 square kilometers in China.
Surrounded by vast wetlands, forests, grasslands, and fertile plains, Khanka Lake is an important ecological area known for biodiversity conservation, bird migration research, and eco-tourism. The Chinese side of the lake is protected as a national nature reserve, while the Russian side is also under nature protection, making Khanka Lake a valuable international wetland ecosystem.
