Jianshui Ancient City
Jianshui Ancient City, located 220 kilometers south of Kunming, Yunnan province, 
was first built in 810 AD. In ancient Yi people’s language it means the sea. Eastern Chaoyang Building, despite many wars and earthquakes, is still standing high there for nearly 600 years. Jianshui started to hold school in temple from Yuan Dynasty, and in the Ming Dynasty they built Lin'an Fu school, in Emperor of Wanli period the Shuizhou State Confucianism School was built here. In the Qing Dynasty, four academies were established in Jianshui successively: Chongzheng School, Huanwen School, Chongwen School and Qujiang School. At that time, there was a name of "Half List", that means half of the winners of the imperial examinations in Yunnan were from Jianshui, which was rare in the whole country at that time. Therefore, Jianshui has always had the reputation of "literature state" and "South Yunnan Zoulu".

Zhu Family Garden
The Zhu Family Garden was first built in the reign of Emperor Guangxu of the Qing Dynasty. It was built by the local gentry Zhu Weiqing. The building covers an area of more than 20,000 square meters, of which the house covers an area of more than 5,000 square meters. The main building is " Three vertical and Four horizontal " layout. The house pattern is orderly, and the courtyard emerges reasonable. The residential buildings were built with excellent materials, and from their carving, structure to layout, all were exquisite. The whole group of buildings have steep ridges and flying eaves, carved beams and painted buildings, everywhere is exquisite and elegant. The space and landscape level are rich with endless changes, forming a "maze" architectural complex. It is a typical private garden with southern characteristics, which contains profound cultural connotation in the rich forms. It is the product of the combination of inland culture and border culture in China, and has high architectural artistic value.

It was built in the late Qing Dynasty and covers an area of more than 10,000 square meters. It is a private residence of the Zhang family. It is a group of residential buildings with large scale, good construction quality and relatively complete preservation. Different from the Zhu Family Garden, the Zhang Family Garden still plays the role of the dwellings, but it is already lived by several different families scattered in the various courtyard, no longer the old large family. But there is still the elegant atmosphere of the courtyard, especially those who have a light layer of gold paint wood carving doors and Windows. The exquisite degree of wood carving is even better than the Zhu Jia Garden, and even comparable to famous Huizhou style in Anhui province.
