Xishuangbanna is at the very south-west border of China. It has a lot of minorities here, such as Dai minority, Ha ni minority, Wa minority.
This is a great place to visit and enjoy a different side of China. The mix of people, culture and rural landscapes make for a very refreshing experience. A week based in Jinghong, with trips out to the local villages, is well worthwhile. The people here are remarkably friendly, the weather is generally fine and the food is varied, but invariably fresh. A bit of Chinese language helps, but as long as you can get your message across you will love it.
Xishuangbanna Wild Elephant Valley is a wonderful sightseeing, Located 47km north of Jinghong, the Mengyang nature reserve is home to Xishuangbanna' s native wild Asian elephants, it's the last remaining refuge of wild elephants in the whole of China. The valley of the Sancha river and the hills to the west and east are covered in dense tropical rain forest and are well watered by numerous streams.
