Yin Dynasty Ruins refer to the ruins of a capital in late Shang Dynasty of ancient China and it is the first capital proven in history, located around Xiaotun Village, Yindu District, Anyang City, Henan Province, China, traversing both banks of Huan River. Such ruins as Royal Cemetery site and Palace-temple site, and Huanbei Shang City site constitute the magnificent and grand Yin Dynasty Ruins. In the Shang Dynasty, kings from Pan Geng to Di Xin (King Zhou), founded the capital here for 273 years. Yin Dynasty Ruins are the ruins of the capital whose exact location was confirmed the earliest in Chinese history, and the first ruins of a capital that can be verified in literature and proven by archaeology and oracle bone inscriptions. The discovery and excavation of Yin Dynasty Ruins ranked No. 1 among “top 100 significant archaeological discoveries” in the 20th century in China. At the beginning of the 20th century, it was discovered due to stealing oracle bone inscriptions. In 1928, archaeological excavation was formally commenced. In 1961, it became a national key cultural relic protection unit.
