Chengdu Panda Breeding Research Center
Giant panda eating bamboo at Chengdu Panda Base Sichuan ChinaThe Chengdu Giant Panda Breeding Research Base, also known as the Chengdu Panda Base, is one of the most famous attractions in Chengdu and the best place in China to see giant pandas up close.
The giant panda is not only a symbol of China but also one of the world’s most beloved animals. Native mainly to Sichuan, Shaanxi, and Gansu provinces, giant pandas are among the rarest animals on Earth. Sichuan is home to the largest population of wild pandas, making Chengdu an ideal destination for travelers who want to experience these unique creatures.
Located only about 10 kilometers from downtown Chengdu, the Panda Base has recreated the natural habitat of giant pandas to provide an ideal environment for breeding, research, and conservation.

A World-Leading Panda Conservation Center
Established to protect and study giant pandas, the Chengdu Giant Panda Breeding Research Base covers approximately 560 mu (about 92 acres), with more than 96% covered by vegetation.
The base combines natural landscapes with modern conservation facilities, including:
* Bamboo forests
* Green hills
* Artificial habitats
* Research laboratories
* Medical facilities
* Panda nurseries
* Feeding areas
Besides giant pandas, the center also protects other endangered species, including:
* Red pandas
* Black-necked cranes
* White storks
* Other rare wildlife species
The peaceful environment of bamboo forests, flowers, fresh air, and green landscapes allows visitors to observe pandas in surroundings similar to their natural habitat.

Giant Panda Conservation and Research
The Panda Base includes advanced facilities for panda protection, including:
* Food preparation areas
* Panda sleeping quarters
* Veterinary medical stations
* Scientific research laboratories
* Breeding and training centers
Thousands of bamboo plants and other vegetation have been cultivated to provide food and shelter for the pandas.
The center also carries out important research on panda breeding and conservation, with the long-term goal of improving panda populations and preparing some captive-bred pandas for possible future release into the wild.

* Exhibition area: about 4,342 square meters
Its seven major exhibition sections include:
1. Panda Origins
2. Bamboo Forest Life

Standing 69.8 meters high with nine floors, the tower offers panoramic views over the entire panda base and surrounding areas.
Inspired by the shape of bamboo shoots and local hibiscus flowers, the tower has become a popular photo spot in Chengdu.
Together with Chengdu’s famous skyline landmarks, it creates a unique cityscape featuring:
* Twin Towers in southern Chengdu
* Panda Tower in northern Chengdu
