Ou river Nature Reserve

Natural ecosystem of Oujiang River Zhejiang

Located in Zhejiang Province, eastern China, the Oujiang River (Ou River) is one of the most important rivers in southern Zhejiang and a beautiful natural landscape connecting mountainous areas with the East China Sea.
Originating in the mountains of Qingyuan County, the river flows through areas including Longquan, Lishui, Qingtian and Wenzhou, before finally entering the East China Sea.
With a total length of approximately 388 kilometers and a drainage area of about 17,900 square kilometers, Oujiang River is famous for its clear waters, dramatic mountain scenery, fertile valleys and rich ecological environment.

A Scenic River of Mountains and Valleys
The upper reaches of Oujiang River pass through the mountainous regions of southern Zhejiang, where the river flows between high mountains, deep valleys and numerous rapids.
The landscape features:
* Green mountains
* Clear streams
* Forest-covered hills
* Traditional villages
* Picturesque river valleys
The upper river area is rich in water resources and surrounded by important forest regions. The combination of mountains and flowing water creates a peaceful natural environment often compared with the famous scenery of the Li River in Guilin, earning Oujiang River the reputation of the “Li River of East China.”

Unique River Landscapes
As the river flows downstream toward Wenzhou, the landscape gradually changes from mountain valleys to wider plains and coastal areas.
The lower reaches are influenced by tides from the East China Sea, creating unique river and coastal ecosystems.
Sediment carried by the river has formed several islands and sandbanks, including famous scenic areas such as:
* Jiangxin Island
* Xizhou Island
* Other river islands and wetlands
Among them, Jiangxin Island is one of the most famous cultural and scenic attractions along Oujiang River.

Rich Biodiversity and Natural Resources
Oujiang River supports a diverse ecosystem with abundant aquatic resources.
The river and surrounding wetlands provide habitats for many species, including:
* Fish species
* Soft-shelled turtles
* Giant salamanders
* Other freshwater wildlife
The region is also home to nationally protected species, making it an important area for ecological conservation.
The combination of clean water, forests and wetlands creates an ideal environment for nature observation and outdoor exploration.

Tourism and Cultural Attractions
The beautiful scenery along Oujiang River has attracted visitors for generations.
Travelers can enjoy:
* Mountain landscapes
* River cruises
* Rural scenery
* Traditional villages
* Historical sites
Nearby attractions include:
* Shimen Cave Scenic Area
* Chen Cheng’s Former Residence
* Ancient villages in southern Zhejiang
* Cultural sites around Lishui and Wenzhou
With its combination of natural beauty and cultural heritage, Oujiang River is one of the most attractive destinations in Zhejiang for travelers seeking authentic landscapes and local experiences.
