Kanasi Nature Reserve
Located in Burqin County of Altay Prefecture, Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, Kanas Nature Reserve is one of the most spectacular natural destinations in China. Situated near the borders of Kazakhstan, Russia, and Mongolia, the reserve features a unique ecosystem composed of alpine lakes, glaciers, forests, grasslands, rivers, and diverse wildlife.
The name Kanas comes from the Mongolian language and means “beautiful, rich, mysterious, and fascinating.” With its pristine landscapes and untouched natural environment, Kanas is widely regarded as one of the most beautiful scenic areas in northern Xinjiang.
The highlight of the reserve is Kanas Lake, a stunning alpine lake formed by glacial activity. Originating from the Kanas Glacier in the Altai Mountains, the Kanas River flows through the mountains for approximately 125 kilometers before reaching the lake. Located at an altitude of 1,375 meters, Kanas Lake covers an area of about 45.73 square kilometers.
The color of Kanas Lake changes with different seasons, weather conditions, and sunlight. The water may appear deep blue, emerald green, or even milky white, creating a breathtaking landscape often described as a natural masterpiece.

Wolong Bay (Crouching Dragon Bay)

Moon Bay

Hemu Village and Tuva Culture
