Alxa League (prefecture) is situated at the westernmost of Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region, administering 3 Banners (County) including Left Banner, Right Banner and Ejina Banner containing totally 23 Sumus (Township) and 190 Gachas (Village).
With the largest area of 270,000km² and the least population of 200,000 in Inner Mongolia, there are 28 ethnic minorities such as Mongol, Han and Hui people, living together in harmony and striding ahead with concerted efforts.
Alxa, the mysterious wonderland, possesses the rich culture treasures known as the heaven for traveling and sightseeing. The lofty Helanshan Mountain with incomparable grandeur and dense woods is the significant habitat of many rare wild plants and animals.
The charming and impressive diversiform-leaved poplar forest is famed for the legend of “living for thousand years without death, standing for thousand years after death and unrottening for thousand years after falling down”. The vigorous and boundless Gobi shaped the marvelous stones acclaimed as the acme of perfection.
The Badanjilin Desert known as the world “King of the Sand Dunes”has the towering sand mountains and imaginary sand lakes spreading all over. It is the core part of the Alxa National Desert Geopark, appraised by Chinese National Geography as “the most beautiful desert in China”and hailed as “the curve made by the God”.
The Moon Lake, appraised as the experimental National 5A-Class Tourist Attraction for its picturesque scenery, looks like a map of China mounted in the Tenggeli desert sea. The thematic itineraries have attracted many visitors abroad and at home, like the religious and culture tour centered by Guangzong Temple (South Temple) and Fuyin Temple (North Temple), the geological exploration tour represented by Guaishiyuan (grotesque rock garden), Shenshigou (mysterious stone valley) and Grand Canyon, and the culture and archeological tour focusing on mysterious Xixia Old Town and ancient Juyan culture.
