Altay Birch Forest Garden
Located in the northwest area of downtown Altay City, Birch Forest Garden is a peaceful natural attraction famous for its beautiful birch trees, winding river channels, and picturesque wetland landscape. Situated along the upper reaches of the Kelan River floodplain, the garden offers visitors a refreshing escape surrounded by forests and flowing water.

Natural Scenery of Birch Forest Garden
The garden is mainly composed of natural birch forests growing across a broad and relatively flat floodplain. The Kelan River flows through the area and divides the garden into six small islands, creating a unique landscape where forests, streams, and wetlands blend together.

History of the Birch Forest
Birch Forest Garden is also known as Dutong Island. According to local history, a Dutong (an official title during the Qing Dynasty) once chose this area as a summer retreat because of its pleasant natural surroundings.
During the 1940s, social unrest in Altay caused severe damage to the original birch forest. Fortunately, the birch trees gradually regenerated after the destruction. The forest visitors see today consists mainly of naturally regenerated secondary woodland, with most trees being less than 50 years old.
Through natural recovery, the area has once again become a vibrant green landscape filled with flourishing trees and vegetation.
