Madame Tussauds Museum in Shanghai
Madame Tussauds Musuem Shanghai interactive exhibition hall
Located on the 10th floor of the New World Building at People’s Square, one of Shanghai’s busiest and most central areas, Madame Tussauds Shanghai is the first Madame Tussauds wax museum in mainland China.
Opened in 2006, the museum combines the classic charm of the world-famous wax museum brand with local Chinese culture. Covering ten themed exhibition areas, it features lifelike wax figures of international celebrities, historical figures, entertainment stars, sports legends, and influential personalities from China and around the world.
Visitors can meet famous figures such as Chinese basketball legend Yao Ming, actress Li Bingbing, and Hong Kong singer Aaron Kwok, alongside global icons from entertainment, business, science, and politics.

The Story Behind Madame Tussauds
The museum is named after Marie Tussaud (1761–1850), a famous French wax artist who became internationally recognized for her realistic wax sculptures.
Marie Tussaud learned wax modeling techniques from Dr. Philippe Curtius and later developed her own collection of wax figures. At the age of 74, she opened her first permanent exhibition in London in 1835, which eventually became the world-famous Madame Tussauds London.
Today, Madame Tussauds museums around the world attract millions of visitors who enjoy the opportunity to stand beside remarkably realistic figures of famous personalities.

Highlights of Madame Tussauds Shanghai

Celebrity and Entertainment Zone
One of the most popular sections allows visitors to get close to famous entertainers and celebrities.
Guests can take photos with Hollywood stars, music legends, and international icons, including figures from the worlds of film, television, and pop culture. The exhibition creates the feeling of attending an exclusive celebrity party where visitors can interact with their favorite stars.

The museum offers interactive experiences beyond traditional displays. Visitors can:
* Practice dance moves inspired by famous performers
* Try digital DJ equipment
* Play a real drum kit
* Take photos with music legends
The rock and roll section is especially popular among visitors who want to experience the atmosphere of the music world.

Historical Figures and World Leaders
Beyond entertainment, Madame Tussauds Shanghai also introduces important figures from history, politics, science, and exploration.
Visitors can explore exhibitions featuring influential leaders, scientists, and pioneers who have shaped world history.

Interactive Wax Museum Experience
Unlike traditional museums, Madame Tussauds encourages visitors to participate. Many wax figures are displayed in realistic scenes where guests can pose, take photos, and become part of the exhibition.
Interactive elements, touch screens, and themed activities make the museum especially attractive for families and young travelers.

Chamber of Horrors
The Chamber of Horrors is one of the museum’s special attractions, recreating the famous horror-themed section from the original Madame Tussauds exhibitions.
Featuring dramatic scenes and frightening characters, this area is recommended for visitors aged 12 and above. Although designed to create a spooky atmosphere, it is more theatrical than truly frightening.

A Fun Attraction in Downtown Shanghai
Madame Tussauds Shanghai combines entertainment, art, and popular culture in a unique way. Although the museum has a commercial style with themed displays and brand collaborations, it offers visitors a rare opportunity to stand face-to-face with some of the world’s most recognizable personalities.
For families, photography lovers, and visitors looking for an entertaining indoor attraction in central Shanghai, Madame Tussauds Shanghai is a memorable stop near People’s Square.
