Fuxing Park

History of Fuxing Park
Fuxing Park was originally a private garden during the Ming Dynasty. After the Opium War, the French authorities took control of the area and redesigned the garden with European landscaping elements.
As a result, Fuxing Park became the only French-style garden in Shanghai, reflecting the cultural influence of the former French Concession.
Although few colonial-era features remain today, the park continues to preserve its elegant European garden layout while serving as an important public space for Shanghai residents.

At the northern part of Fuxing Park stands the famous Marx and Engels Sculpture Square.

The monument reflects the historical importance of Marxist thought in modern Chinese history and has become one of the park’s recognizable landmarks.
