Xixia Imperial Tombs in Yinchuan
Located at the eastern foothills of the Helan Mountains, about 35 kilometers west of Yinchuan City, Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region, the Xixia Imperial Tombs ( Western Xia ) are the royal mausoleums of the Western Xia Dynasty (1038–1227).
As one of the best-preserved historical sites representing the ancient Tangut civilization, the Western Xia Imperial Tombs are among the most important cultural attractions in Ningxia. With their grand scale, unique architectural style, and mysterious history, the tombs offer visitors a fascinating glimpse into the rise and culture of the Western Xia Kingdom.
A Grand Royal Cemetery of the Xixia Dynasty
Constructed between the 11th and 13th centuries, the Xixia Imperial Tombs are located between the majestic Helan Mountains to the west and the fertile Yinchuan Plain and Yellow River to the east.
The site covers an area of approximately 50 square kilometers and features a remarkable layout adapted to the natural landscape, with higher terrain in the west and lower land in the east.
The entire burial complex includes:

The nine imperial mausoleums are arranged from north to south along the eastern slope of the Helan Mountains, forming a spectacular long and narrow royal burial area.
