Day 1: Luoyang City Tour & Peony Festival (L, Lunch)
In the morning, your private guide and driver will pick you up from your hotel and take you to the Longmen Grottoes, one of China’s most impressive collections of ancient Buddhist art. Dating mainly from the Northern Wei and Tang dynasties, the grottoes feature thousands of exquisitely carved Buddhist statues, niches, inscriptions, and stone carvings along the cliffs of the Yi River. Take your time to explore this remarkable UNESCO World Heritage Site and admire the artistic achievements of ancient China.
In the afternoon, continue your Luoyang sightseeing tour with a visit to Wangcheng Park, one of the best-known places to enjoy Luoyang’s famous peony flowers. During the annual Luoyang Peony Festival, the park is filled with peonies in a spectacular variety of colors and shapes, making it an excellent place for photography and a relaxing stroll.
Next, visit the Sui and Tang Dynasties City Ruins Botanical Garden, where you can see even more beautiful peony varieties. The garden combines colorful flower displays with the historical atmosphere of ancient Luoyang, once an important capital city during several Chinese dynasties.
In the late afternoon, head to Luoyang Old Town. Take a leisurely walk through the historic streets, explore traditional buildings and local shops, and sample some of Luoyang’s famous local snacks. It is a great way to experience the everyday atmosphere and culinary traditions of this ancient city.
After the tour, return to your hotel in Luoyang for an overnight stay.
