Zunyi Conference Site and Museum
Zunyi, a small Chinese city of a few million people in north central Guizhou province is famous for two things: Mao and Moutai.
In 1935 a crucial meeting of the Chinese Communist Party happened here. There's a lot more to it, but in a nutshell, after the meeting Mao Zedong was in control of the Party. The Commnists and Nationalists fought many battles in the hills of Guizhou.
For Chinese history buffs, political geeks, or fervent Reds, this is a must-see spot.
You can also climb Red Army Mountain, and see the rest of the historical sites on Red Army Street.
Zunyi is accessible by plane from Guangzhou, Beijing, Shanghai, and Kunming (the
new airport was designed to look like the Meeting House), and by direct train or bus from Guiyang, Chengdu, and Chongqing.
