Detian Waterfall
Located in Detian Village, Shuolong Town, Daxin County, Chongzuo City, Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, Detian Waterfall is one of the most breathtaking natural attractions in southern China. Situated in the upper reaches of the Guichun River, the waterfall lies near Boundary Monument No. 53 along the China-Vietnam border and is connected with Vietnam’s neighboring Ban Gioc Waterfall (Đức Thiên Waterfall), forming one of the most famous transnational waterfall landscapes in the world.
The clear waters of the Guichun River, a tributary of the Zuojiang River, flow along the border between China and Vietnam. When the river reaches Putang Island, the landscape transforms into the magnificent Detian Waterfall, where the powerful river plunges down from towering cliffs, creating a spectacular scene of rushing water, mist, and rainbows.
The waterfall is divided into three cascading sections, with a maximum width of more than 200 meters, a depth of over 60 meters, and a drop of more than 70 meters. With an average annual flow of about 50 cubic meters per second, the waterfall creates an impressive display of natural power. The surrounding landscape is formed by thick layers of dolomite rock, contributing to the unique karst scenery of the region.
Recognized as a special scenic area by China, Detian Waterfall is the largest transnational natural waterfall in Asia and one of the most spectacular waterfalls in Southeast Asia. Together with Vietnam’s Ban Gioc Waterfall, it resembles two connected sisters sharing the same river and landscape.
Beyond its natural beauty, Detian Waterfall is also a place where Chinese and Vietnamese border communities interact. Villagers living downstream continue traditional border trade activities, adding a unique cultural atmosphere to this remarkable destination.
