Dege Tour
   Dege county is located in the northwest of Ganzi Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture, Sichuan Province, bordering Ganzi County in the east, Baiyu County in the south, Jiangda County in Tibet across the Jinsha River in the west and shiqu county in the north, and is located in the upper reaches of Jinsha River and Yalong River.  

     Dege county is a county mainly engaged in animal husbandry, and its famous scenic spots include Dege Sutra-Printing House, as the national key cultural relic protection unit, at the top of Tibetan Buddhist printing academies in China.

  It is the last county in Sichuan section of Sichuan-Tibet National Highway 317. Dege Sutra-Printing House is known as "Encyclopedia of Tibetan Culture", "Bright Cultural Pearl in Tibetan Areas" and "Treasure House under Snow Mountain".

  Dege county is under the jurisdiction of Dege Gengqing Temple, which is the information center for importing and exporting Tibetan culture. Many printing academies attract an endless stream of worshippers every day, who turn the scriptures clockwise around printing academies.

  Dege county became the birthplace of Kangba standard Tibetan language, which has connection with profound culture of the Printing Academy. Behind the Printing Academy, Gengqing Temple, which is the main temple of Tibetan Buddhism in Kangba Area (The Kangba area is referred to as "Kang area" for short. Kang area mainly includes Ganzi Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture in Sichuan, Aba Tibetan and Qiang Autonomous Prefecture in Sichuan, Qamdo Prefecture in Tibet, Diqing Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture in Yunnan and Yushu Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture in Qinghai). A grand chanting ceremony will be held here every morning.

  Here, there is the purest blue sky! Here, there is a golden light of faith! Look for the flourishing Buddhist culture, and take you into Dege, the hometown of King Gesar. In Dege, you can witness Kangba culture, glaciers and lakes as blue as jade, and snow peaks of Queer Mountain towering into the clouds.

  Dege county has the ancestral temples of the five major sects of Kangba Tibetan Buddhism; There are five famous Wuming Buddhist colleges in Kangqu; It is the place with the largest number of temples in 18 counties of Ganzi Prefecture, reaching 57.

The Attractions of Dege city:

Five ancestral temples of Tibetan Buddhism

  There are five ancestral temples of Tibetan Buddhism in Dege. There is a Babang temple of Bai Sect in Tibetan areas, which was founded in 1179 and has more than 200 sub-temples. Gengqing Temple, the ancestral temple of Hua sect, was founded in 1448 and has jurisdiction over 7 sub-temples.

  Zhuqing Temple, the ancestral temple of Red Sect, was founded in 1685 and has jurisdiction over more than 200 temples,which is the birthplace of Tibetan opera of King Gesar. Gengsha Temple, the ancestral temple of Yellow Sect, was founded in 1654 and has jurisdiction over more than 10 temples. Dingqing Temple, the ancestral temple of Black Sect in Kangqu, was founded in 618.

Five Buddhist academies

  The five major sects of Tibetan Buddhism have all established five Buddhist academy in Dege county. One is Xierisen Wuming Buddhist Academy in Zhuqing Temple, which has a history of 250 years and belongs to Red sect. There are as many as 600 scholars and eminent monks, and their works are quite abundant, affecting the whole Tibetan area and India, Nepal and Bhutan.

  The second is Kangxie Wuming Buddhist Academy of Zongsa Temple, which has a history of more than 130 years and is the highest institution of Hua sect. The third is the Wuming Buddhist Academy of Babang Temple, which has a history of 120 years and is the only systematic advanced institution of Bai sect. The fourth is the Wuming Buddhist Academy of Xieqing Temple, which has a history of 120 years and belongs to Red sect.

  Fifth, the Jizha Wuming Buddhist Academy of Dingqing Temple, which belongs to the highest Black sect, has been established for more than 250 years.

  These five Wuming Buddhist academies are all based on the theory of “Five Ming”. Their research contents involve Buddhism, astronomy, poetry, literature, medicine, grammar, history, calendar, painting and so on.

Dege Buhhism Printing House
There is a Dege Sutra-Printing House in Gengqing Monastery, a temple of Ningma Sect of Buddhism. Dege Printing Academy is known as "Encyclopedia of Tibetan Culture", "Brilliant Cultural Pearl in Tibetan Areas" and "Treasure House under Snow Mountain".  
Dege Buhhism Printing House was founded in 1729, with a total area of about 5,000 square meters, a building area of nearly 3,000 square meters. It is located in the cultural street of Dege County (Gengqing Town), and was listed as a national key cultural relic protection unit by the State Council in 1996.
During the reign of Yongzheng in Qing Dynasty (1729), the 12th generation Dege Tusi Denbazeren built the Dege Printing House and it was famous in the Tibetan area. Generation by generation, Dege Printing House has collected 320,000 Buddhist scripture engravings, which is the largest Tibetan Sutra-Printing House in China and the only place in the world that still prints scriptures by hand with engravings. You can still see the elapses of years, and you can also catch sight of the piety and awe of generations of engravers. Every day, pilgrims from thousands of miles come to Dege. They twist the beads and shake the prayer wheel. It is said that they can practice a merit by turning around the printing scripture for 1111 times. In today's world, it is unique to completely preserve more than 270,000 printing plates with engravings.
 
Gengqing Monastery
Gengqing Monastery is the main temple of Saga Sect of Tibetan Buddhism in Kham area of Sichuan province, and it is located in the city of Dege. It is a family temple of Dege Tusi. There are more than 300 Buddha statues made of gold and alloy in the main hall of Gengqing Temple, and there are a sea of items such as more than 200 Thang-gas, scriptures and utensils.
 
Quershan Mountain 
Quershan Mountain, also named Cuola Mountain in Tibetan, is located in Ganzi Prefecture, western Sichuan Plateau, in the north of Hengduan Mountains. The main peak of Quer Mountain is 6168 meters above sea level in Dege county. There are dozens of snow peaks above 5000 meters above sea level in mountainous areas, which are the fortress of traffic in Tibet.
 
YulongLacuo Lake
Yulonglacuo lake, meaning “My heart is devoted to the lake “ in Tibetan, is located at the foot of Quershan Mountain in Dege county. According to legend, the love princess of the hero King Gesar in the Tibetan epic, Zhumu, came to the lake and was attracted by the hauntingly beautiful lakes. Later generations called the lake as "Yulong Lacuo" in memory of her. In the south of Yulong Lacuo lake are abrupt and towering glacier snow peaks. In the north, there are abundant pasture, and there are dense coniferous forests on the east and west slopes. Its refreshing primitive ecology, different beautiful scenery in winter and summer, and the touching stories of Gesar and Zum have made this natural landscape increasingly valued by tourists in recent years. Blue sky , white clouds, snowy peaks, sparkling glaciers, green hills, green grass leave their shadows in the lake, and rare birds and animals haunt around the shore of the lake, and wild ducks flock in the lake. In summer and autumn, the mountain flowers are blooming, and it is really a fairyland in the world.
 
Babang Monastery
Babang Monastery is located on a hill 300 meters north of Babang village 30 kms away from  Dege city, with an altitude of 3,800 meters. It is a key cultural relic protection unit in Sichuan Province. Babang monastery is the main temple of the Kajv sect in Kham area, and is also known as the two major resorts of the Kajv sect together with Chubu Temple in Tibet. Babang has a large scale and a quiet environment, and its buildings are stacked along the mountain and the upper floors are stacked. After the banners are unfurled, golden dome is resplendent and magnificent, which can be seen in ten miles. The palace is richly decorated, with exquisite clay sculptures and murals, rich postures and vivid images. It is called the best temple building in Kangqu, and it is also known as the "Little Potala Palace".

Transportation Tips

  • The northern Sichuan-Tibet line (National Highway 317) passes through Dege, and there is a shuttle bus from Kangding to this place.
  • From October to May, there was snowfall, and the road conditions in Queer Mountain were poor.
  • In summer, landslides and mudslides sometimes occur on the Sichuan-Tibet line.
  • If you take a shuttle bus from Kangding, you usually arrive at 3 pm the next day after departure; If you start from Chengdu, you must arrive in Kangding by bus first.
