Beidaihe Wetland Park
Beidaihe coastal scenery and beach in QinhuangdaoBeidaihe is a famous coastal summer resort in Qinhuangdao, Hebei Province, located along the coast of the Bohai Sea in northern China. Known for its pleasant climate, sandy beaches, green landscapes, wetlands and abundant birdlife, Beidaihe has long been one of China’s most popular seaside destinations.

A Pleasant Summer Resort
Influenced by the marine climate, Beidaihe enjoys relatively mild and humid weather. Summers are generally cool and comfortable compared with many inland areas of northern China, with an average summer temperature of around 23°C.
The combination of fresh sea air, extensive greenery and a relatively comfortable climate has made Beidaihe a popular summer retreat for generations. The area is also known for its abundant vegetation and attractive coastal environment, creating a refreshing atmosphere for visitors.

Beaches and Coastal Scenery
Facing the Bohai Sea to the south, Beidaihe features a long and winding coastline. Its beaches are characterized by soft sand, gentle slopes and relatively calm, shallow waters, making the area well suited for seaside recreation.
The coastline is complemented by hills, unusual rock formations and green vegetation. Among the well-known scenic areas and landmarks are Lianfeng Hill, Yingjiao Pavilion, Guanyin Temple, Jinshanzui, Tiger Rock and Lotus Stone.
Visitors can enjoy walks along the coast, relax on the beach or explore the hills and viewpoints overlooking the sea. The combination of mountains, rocks, forests and beaches gives Beidaihe a distinctive coastal character.

Beidaihe Beach along the Bohai SeaBeidaihe Wetland and Birdwatching
Beidaihe is also internationally recognized as an important destination for birdwatching. Its coastal wetlands, mudflats, lagoons and river estuaries provide valuable feeding and resting grounds for migratory birds.
The wetlands around the mouths of the Daihe, Henghe and Luanhe rivers create diverse habitats for birds and other wildlife. The area’s favorable ecological environment has earned Beidaihe a reputation as one of the best places in China for observing migratory birds.
Beidaihe lies along important migration routes connecting northern Asia with southern China and Southeast Asia. During spring and autumn migration seasons, large numbers of birds pass through the area, creating spectacular opportunities for birdwatching.
Among the birds that may be observed in the region are red-crowned cranes, white storks and many other migratory and resident species.

A Paradise for Migratory Birds
During spring and autumn, when migratory birds travel between their breeding and wintering grounds, the skies and wetlands around Beidaihe become particularly lively.
Large groups of birds can often be seen flying above the coast, resting in wetlands or searching for food along the tidal flats. In late spring and early summer, the wetlands and coastal mudflats also provide important feeding grounds for numerous species.
Geziwo Park, also known as Pigeon Nest Park, is one of the well-known places for observing the coastal scenery and birdlife of Beidaihe. Early mornings are particularly popular with birdwatchers and photographers.
The rich biodiversity of the wetlands demonstrates the ecological importance of Beidaihe and has made the area a significant destination for nature enthusiasts.

Historic and Cultural Heritage
Beidaihe is not only known for its natural scenery but also has a long history and rich cultural associations. Ancient historical figures and political leaders have visited the wider region, contributing to its cultural appeal.
According to historical traditions, Qin Shi Huang, the First Emperor of the Qin Dynasty, visited the coastal area while searching for immortals and the legendary elixir of life. During the Han Dynasty, Emperor Wu also visited the region.
The area is particularly associated with Cao Cao, the famous military leader and poet of the late Eastern Han Dynasty. His celebrated poem Viewing the Sea describes the magnificent coastal landscape and reflects the long-standing cultural connection between the region and the Bohai coast.
These historical associations add another dimension to Beidaihe, combining seaside scenery with China’s rich literary and imperial heritage.

A Coastal Destination for Nature and Relaxation
With its pleasant summer climate, sandy beaches, forested hills, wetlands, migratory birds and historical attractions, Beidaihe offers a diverse range of experiences.
Whether visitors are looking for a relaxing seaside holiday, a place to enjoy nature and birdwatching, or an opportunity to explore China’s coastal history and culture, Beidaihe provides an appealing combination of natural beauty and cultural heritage.
As one of northern China’s best-known coastal resorts, Beidaihe remains a popular destination for travelers seeking fresh sea air, beautiful landscapes and a peaceful escape from the busy cities.
