Day 1: Arrival in Pingyao | Qiao Family Compound – Pingyao Ancient City
Arrive in Pingyao around noon by high-speed train from Xi'an, Mount Wutai, or Taiyuan. Your guide will meet you at the railway station before driving to the renowned Qiao Family Compound, one of China's finest examples of traditional Shanxi courtyard architecture.
Built during the Qing Dynasty, this magnificent mansion was once home to the wealthy Qiao merchant family. Its elegant courtyards, intricate wood carvings, exquisite brickwork, and imposing architecture offer a fascinating glimpse into the prosperity of Shanxi's legendary merchant culture. The compound also gained international fame as one of the filming locations for the acclaimed movie Raise the Red Lantern.
After the visit, return to Pingyao Ancient City, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of the best-preserved ancient walled cities in China.
