Shiqiao Village Traditional Paper Making
Located in Guizhou Province, Shiqiao Village is one of the best places in China to experience the ancient tradition of handmade papermaking. Papermaking is considered one of the Four Great Inventions of Ancient China, together with printing, the compass, and gunpowder. The earliest forms of Chinese papermaking can be traced back to the Eastern Han Dynasty (25–220 AD). Early paper was made using materials such as tree bark, hemp, and old fishing nets. Although historical records describe the development of papermaking, many details of the traditional bark-paper process have been lost over time.
