Jiaxiu Pavilion
Jiaxiu Pavilion on Nanming River in Guiyang Guizhou ChinaStanding on Fuyu Bridge over the Nanming River, Jiaxiu Pavilion (Jiaxiu Lou) is one of the most famous landmarks in Guiyang, Guizhou Province. Also known as the “First Scholar’s Tower,” this elegant pavilion represents the city’s long history, cultural traditions, and respect for education.
Originally built in 1598 during the Ming Dynasty (1368–1644), Jiaxiu Pavilion has become an important cultural symbol of Guiyang and one of the must-see attractions for visitors exploring Guizhou.

History and Meaning of Jiaxiu Pavilion
The name “Jiaxiu” means “outstanding” or “the best among scholars.” During ancient China, many students devoted their lives to studying for the imperial examinations, hoping to achieve academic honors and government positions.
To encourage local scholars and promote education, a local official ordered the construction of the pavilion and named it Jiaxiu, symbolizing the pursuit of excellence in learning.
According to local tradition, Guizhou later produced several top-ranked scholars in the imperial examinations, and legends suggest that some of them had connections with the area around the Nanming River.
Over the centuries, Jiaxiu Pavilion has remained a symbol of knowledge, achievement, and cultural development in Guizhou.

Architecture of Jiaxiu Pavilion
Jiaxiu Pavilion is a beautiful three-story wooden tower standing about 20 meters (66 feet) high. Built in a traditional Chinese architectural style, the pavilion features:
* Green glazed tile roofs
* Bright red wooden pillars
* Decorative carved windows
* White stone railings
The elegant design blends perfectly with the surrounding river landscape, creating a picturesque scene that represents the traditional beauty of Chinese architecture.
Visitors can climb the pavilion to enjoy panoramic views of the Nanming River and the city of Guiyang.

Jiaxiu Pavilion night view reflected on Nanming RiverJiaxiu Pavilion Night View
The night scenery of Jiaxiu Pavilion is especially impressive. When the pavilion is illuminated by colorful lights, its reflection appears on the water of the Nanming River, creating a beautiful scene that feels almost like a traditional Chinese painting.
Walking across Fuyu Bridge in the evening, visitors can enjoy the peaceful combination of ancient architecture, flowing water, and city lights.

Cultural Collections and Exhibitions
Besides being an architectural landmark, Jiaxiu Pavilion is also an important cultural site. Inside the pavilion, visitors can admire valuable collections, including:
* Ancient calligraphy works
* Traditional paintings
* Wood carvings
* Stone tablets engraved with poems
These artworks reflect the artistic achievements and cultural traditions of past generations.

Visit Jiaxiu Pavilion in Guiyang
As one of the most iconic attractions in Guiyang, Jiaxiu Pavilion offers visitors a chance to experience the history, architecture, and cultural heritage of Guizhou.
Whether visiting during the day to appreciate its traditional design or at night to enjoy its stunning reflection on the river, Jiaxiu Pavilion is a must-see destination for travelers interested in Chinese history and culture.
