Your Southern Sichuan adventure begins early in the morning. Your private guide from China Exploration will accompany you to Chengdu East Railway Station, where you will board a bullet train to Xingwen. The approximately two-hour journey offers beautiful views as the train travels through the changing landscapes of Sichuan.
Upon arrival in Xingwen around noon, begin your exploration of the fascinating Xingwen Karst Geopark, renowned for its spectacular karst landscapes, stone forests, and underground caves. The geopark is one of China’s most impressive karst areas and is famous for its extraordinary natural formations.
Spend the day discovering this remarkable geological wonderland. Towering limestone peaks and rock formations take on imaginative shapes, while the mysterious underground cave system reveals another side of the region’s karst landscape. Walk among dramatic cliffs, stone forests, and caves while learning about the geological forces that shaped this unique landscape.
In the afternoon, drive for approximately one hour to Shunan Bamboo Sea, one of China’s most famous bamboo forest landscapes. Check in to your local hotel and enjoy a relaxing evening surrounded by the peaceful bamboo forest. If you wish, take a leisurely walk near the hotel and listen to the gentle sound of the wind moving through the bamboo.

D2 Shunan Bamboo Sea / Lizhuang Ancient Town

Spend the morning exploring Shunan Bamboo Sea, a vast natural landscape covered by lush bamboo forests in southern Sichuan. Bamboo has played an important role in Chinese culture for centuries, and this spectacular area offers an excellent opportunity to experience the beauty of bamboo in its natural environment.
Follow the scenic paths through the green bamboo forest and discover highlights such as the Long Corridor of Green Jade, Seven-Color Waterfall, and Forget Sadness Valley. In addition to the extensive bamboo forest, the area features clear streams, waterfalls, tranquil lakes, and dramatic rock formations, creating a peaceful and refreshing natural environment.
In the late afternoon, drive approximately 50 minutes to Lizhuang Ancient Town, a historic settlement located on the banks of the Yangtze River. Take a leisurely walk through its old streets and explore traditional houses, historic buildings, and riverside scenery.
As evening falls, enjoy the atmosphere of the ancient town and stay overnight in a local hotel near the historic old street.
D3 Lizhuang Ancient Town / Yibin / Departure

Lizhuang played an important role in China’s history during World War II. After the Nationalist government moved its wartime capital to Chongqing, a number of Chinese universities, research institutions, and cultural organizations relocated to Lizhuang. Today, the town still preserves many historic buildings, traditional residences, and cultural sites that reflect this important period of Chinese history.
In the morning, continue exploring Lizhuang Ancient Town and visit several of its historic landmarks and cultural relics.
After the visit, drive approximately 30 minutes to Cuiping Mountain in Yibin. According to local tradition, Cuiping Mountain is associated with Nezha, a legendary figure in Chinese mythology. Hike or drive up the mountain and visit the temple dedicated to Nezha while enjoying views over Yibin.
Yibin is also the birthplace of Wuliangye, one of China’s most famous baijiu brands. If time permits, visit the Wuliangye Museum to learn about the history, production techniques, and cultural significance of this traditional Chinese spirit.
In the late afternoon, transfer to Yibin Railway Station and board a bullet train to your next destination, such as Chongqing, Chengdu, or Kunming.
