D1 Chengdu / Jianmen Pass / Guangyuan Hiking: 3–4 hours
In the morning, take a bullet train from Chengdu to Jianmen Pass and enjoy the changing scenery as the landscape gradually transforms from the fertile Sichuan Plain into rugged mountain terrain.
Upon arrival in Jianmen Pass, meet your private guide and driver and begin your hiking adventure. Jianmen Pass was historically one of the most strategically important and difficult mountain passes on the ancient road between Sichuan and central China. Hike up the mountain and enjoy spectacular panoramic views of the surrounding peaks and valleys.
In the afternoon, hike down the mountain and continue to Cuiyunlang Corridor. Once part of the ancient road network of the Shu Kingdom, Cuiyunlang is famous for its magnificent ancient cypress and pine trees, some of which are believed to be more than 1,000 years old. Take a short hike through the historic corridor and appreciate the peaceful scenery and ancient trees.
In the late afternoon, drive to Guangyuan for your overnight stay.
D2 Guangyuan / Mingyuexia Gorge / Tangjiahe Nature Reserve Hiking: approximately 2 hours
Guangyuan is closely associated with Wu Zetian, the only woman in Chinese history to rule as emperor. In the morning, visit Huangze Temple, a historic temple complex dedicated to Wu Zetian and an important cultural attraction in Guangyuan.
Continue to Mingyuexia Gorge, approximately 30 km from Guangyuan. Here, hike along a section of the ancient trail built along the cliffs and enjoy views of the surrounding mountains and the Jialing River. The trail forms part of the historic route that connected Sichuan with other regions of China.
In the late afternoon, drive approximately 2.5 hours to Tangjiahe Nature Reserve. Known for its rich biodiversity, the reserve provides habitat for a variety of wildlife, including giant pandas, takins, Asian black bears, and golden monkeys. As evening approaches, some animals may become more active as they descend from the mountains in search of food.

D3 Tangjiahe Nature Reserve Hiking: approximately 4 hours
Spend the day exploring Tangjiahe Nature Reserve, one of Sichuan’s important wildlife habitats.
In the morning, hike for approximately 1–2 hours to Motianling Pass, a historic mountain pass that once marked an important route between Sichuan and Gansu. Enjoy the spectacular mountain scenery along the trail, while keeping an eye out for wildlife in the surrounding forest.
Descend the mountain around noon and return to your hotel for a break.
In the afternoon, continue hiking through the mountain valleys in search of wildlife and enjoy the pristine natural environment. You will also hike toward the lower mountain areas, where you may have opportunities to observe groups of wild monkeys in their natural habitat.



D4 Tangjiahe / Wanglang Nature Reserve / Jiuzhaigou Hiking: approximately 2 hours
In the morning, drive to Wanglang Nature Reserve, another important wildlife area in northern Sichuan and a renowned habitat for giant pandas and other native species.
Begin your hike from Ganhaizi to Baishagou, covering approximately 2.5 km through the mountain landscape. Along the trail, you may have the opportunity to spot blue sheep and other wildlife. If conditions permit, continue hiking uphill for another 30–60 minutes to explore the pristine mountain environment and enjoy the surrounding wilderness.
In the afternoon, leave Wanglang Nature Reserve and continue to Jiuzhaigou Valley. Upon arrival, check in to your local hotel and prepare for the following day’s hiking adventure.
D5 Jiuzhaigou Valley Hiking: approximately 6 hours
Today, explore the spectacular landscapes of Jiuzhaigou Valley, one of China’s most renowned natural attractions. The valley is famous for its crystal-clear lakes, cascading waterfalls, colorful forests, and snow-capped mountains.
In the morning, take the local sightseeing bus to the upper section of the valley and begin your hiking experience. Follow the scenic trails and discover some of Jiuzhaigou’s most beautiful sights, including Panda Lake, Five Flower Lake, and Pearl Shoal Waterfall.
In the afternoon, continue hiking through the valley and explore Long Lake, Five Color Pond, Rhinoceros Lake, Shuzheng Lake, and other scenic areas. Take time to appreciate the changing colors of the lakes and the surrounding forests and mountains.
Leave Jiuzhaigou Valley in the late afternoon and return to your hotel.
D6 Jiuzhaigou / Huanglong National Park / Chengdu Hiking: approximately 2–3 hours
In the morning, drive approximately two hours to Huanglong National Park, famous for its spectacular travertine pools, colorful lakes, waterfalls, forests, and mountain scenery.
Take the cable car up the mountain and hike for approximately 40 minutes to Five-Color Pond, one of Huanglong’s most impressive natural attractions. Continue hiking downhill through the scenic area, enjoying the extraordinary landscape of turquoise pools and travertine formations along the way.
In the late afternoon, transfer to Songpan Railway Station and board a bullet train back to Chengdu.
