8-Day Sichuan Culture, Nature & Heritage Tour
Explore the cultural and natural highlights of Sichuan on this 8-day private tour from Chengdu. Discover ancient Taoist and Buddhist temples, giant pandas, the mysterious Sanxingdui civilization, the ancient Dujiangyan Irrigation System, Tibetan culture in northern Sichuan, the spectacular landscapes of Huanglong and Jiuzhaigou, the Leshan Giant Buddha, and the sacred Mount Emei.
The journey combines Sichuan’s history, religion, wildlife, ethnic culture, and spectacular mountain scenery, making it an ideal introduction to the diversity of southwestern China.
Day 1: Arrival in Chengdu
Upon arrival in Chengdu, your private guide and driver will meet you at the airport and transfer you to your hotel. After a short rest, begin exploring the cultural heritage of Chengdu.
Visit Qingyang Palace, an important Taoist temple in Chengdu where you can learn about traditional Taoist philosophy and the teachings associated with Laozi.
Continue to Wenshu Monastery, one of Chengdu’s best-known Buddhist temples. Explore its traditional architecture, peaceful courtyards, and religious atmosphere.
Later in the afternoon, stroll through Kuanzhai Alley, a historic neighborhood featuring traditional courtyards and buildings dating back to the Qing Dynasty. Today, its lanes are home to local restaurants, teahouses, handicraft shops, and traditional Chengdu-style architecture.
Return to your hotel in the evening.

Day 2: Chengdu
Walk through the panda enclosures and research areas and observe giant pandas during their daily activities, particularly in the morning when they are generally more active.
Continue to Baoguang Monastery, a historic Buddhist temple complex near Chengdu. The monastery is particularly famous for its extensive collection of Buddhist statues and traditional architecture.
In the afternoon, visit the Sanxingdui Museum, where you will discover the mysterious civilization that flourished in the Sichuan Basin more than 3,000 years ago.
Explore the museum’s remarkable collection of bronze masks, figures, jade objects, gold artifacts, pottery, and other archaeological discoveries. The distinctive Sanxingdui bronzes offer a fascinating glimpse into an ancient culture that developed along the upper Yangtze River.
Return to your hotel in Chengdu.

Day 3: Chengdu / Dujiangyan / Songpan / Chuanzhusi
Leave Chengdu in the morning and travel to Dujiangyan.
Visit the Dujiangyan Irrigation System, an extraordinary ancient water-conservation project constructed more than 2,000 years ago and still functioning today.
Learn how ancient Chinese engineers worked with the natural flow of the Minjiang River to control flooding and distribute water for irrigation without relying on a conventional dam.
Continue toward Songpan, traveling through the mountain landscapes of northern Sichuan.
Upon arrival, explore Songpan Ancient Town, a historic settlement that once served as an important trading center along ancient routes between Sichuan and the Tibetan plateau. The town provides your first opportunity on this journey to encounter Tibetan culture and traditional architecture.
Continue to Chuanzhusi in the late afternoon.

Day 4: Huanglong / Jiuzhaigou
Today, explore Huanglong Scenic Area, famous for its spectacular travertine terraces, colorful pools, waterfalls, alpine forests, and mountain scenery.
Take the cable car up the mountain and then walk downhill through the scenic area. This saves considerable energy on the ascent and allows more time to enjoy the spectacular alpine landscape.
The highlight of the visit is Five-Color Pond, a series of brilliantly colored travertine pools surrounded by forests and mountains. Along the trail, enjoy the changing scenery of alpine forests, limestone formations, cascading pools, and distant peaks.
After the Huanglong excursion, drive to Jiuzhaigou in the afternoon.
Check in to your hotel and rest in preparation for tomorrow’s full-day exploration of Jiuzhaigou National Park.

Day 5: Jiuzhaigou National Park
Rise early and travel with your guide to the entrance of Jiuzhaigou National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site renowned for its crystal-clear alpine lakes, waterfalls, forests, and spectacular mountain landscapes.
Take the local sightseeing bus into the park and explore its three main valleys: Shuzheng Valley, Rize Valley, and Zechawa Valley.
Along the way, discover some of Jiuzhaigou’s most famous scenic attractions, including Panda Lake, Pearl Shoal, Long Lake, Mirror Lake, and Nuorilang Waterfall.
The intensely colored lakes, surrounded by virgin forests and mountain peaks, create the spectacular scenery for which Jiuzhaigou is famous.
Jiuzhaigou also has a rich Tibetan cultural heritage. Several traditional Tibetan villages are located within the scenic area, and your guide will introduce you to local customs, architecture, traditions, and the relationship between Tibetan communities and the surrounding environment.
In the late afternoon, leave the national park and return to your hotel.

Day 6: Jiuzhaigou / Chengdu / Leshan / Mount Emei
In the early morning, your guide and driver will transfer you to Jiuzhai Huanglong Airport for your flight back to Chengdu.
After arriving in Chengdu, meet your guide and driver and continue by road to Leshan, approximately two to two and a half hours away.
Visit the magnificent Leshan Giant Buddha, a 71-meter-high stone statue of Maitreya Buddha carved into the cliffs overlooking the confluence of three rivers.
There are two main ways to appreciate the Giant Buddha. You can hike along the cliffside paths and see the statue up close from different levels, or take a boat ride on the river for a panoramic view of the entire statue and surrounding cliffs.
After the visit, continue to Mount Emei and check in to your hotel.

Day 7: Mount Emei / Leshan
After breakfast, begin your exploration of Mount Emei, one of China’s most sacred Buddhist mountains and a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
Take the sightseeing bus up to Leidongping and walk to the cable car station. Then take the cable car to Golden Summit (Jinding).
At the summit, explore the Buddhist temples and enjoy spectacular panoramic views across the surrounding mountain ranges. On clear days, the summit offers breathtaking views of the vast landscape of Sichuan.
After exploring Golden Summit, descend by sightseeing bus toward Wannian Temple and continue to Wannian Temple, one of Mount Emei’s oldest and most important Buddhist temples.
Take the cable car and mountain trails as appropriate before continuing toward Wuxianggang and the scenic area exit.
In the late afternoon, drive to Leshan and check in to your hotel.

Day 8: Leshan / Qianwei / Huangcunjing / Chengdu
In the early morning, drive to Qianwei County, where you will experience one of Sichuan’s most distinctive rural attractions: a historic steam train journey through the countryside.
Board the heritage steam train toward Huangcunjing and enjoy views of traditional villages, farmland, tea gardens, and the peaceful rural landscape along the route.
Upon arrival, take a walk around the village and experience the slower pace of rural Sichuan life. You may also have the opportunity to interact with local residents and observe traditional village life.
After the excursion, your driver will transfer you back toward Chengdu.
Depending on your flight schedule, you will be transferred to Chengdu airport for your flight home.
