Dianchi Lake of Kunming:
Covering 330 square kilometres, the Dianchi Lake is the largest fresh water lake in Yunnan Province. In China it is always referred to as A Plateau Peal. Since ancient times, the Dianchi Lake has been a holiday resort and around it there are many tourist sites including the West Mt Forest Park, Yunnan Nationalities Village, Daguan Park and Haigeng Park etc.
Er'hai Lake of Dali:
Also called Yeyu Lake and Kunmi Lake in ancient times, the Er'hai Lake is one of the famous four great sights of Dali. It is also deemed the Mother Lake of the Bai ethnic group. As the second largest plateau lake of Yunnan, the Er'hai Lake covers 250 sq km, and the deepest place is about 20 metres (66 ft). The lake is abundant in fishery resources and around it are fascinating sceneries and profound Bai ethnic culture.
Fuxian Lake of Yuxi:
Situated in Chengjiang County in Central Yunnan, Fuxian Lake is the deepest plateau lake of Yunnan. Covering 210 sq km, the lake exhibits an altitude of 1,720 metres (5,643 ft), and its deepest place is over 150 metres (492 ft). There are many natural and cultural sites around the limpid lake, and the ancient underwater architecture complex discovered in recent years remains a big mystery.
Lugu Lake of Lijiang:
Situated between Yunnan's Ninglang County and Sichuan's Yanyuan County, the Lugu Lake is the second deepest plateau lake of Yunnan, with the acreage being over 50 sq km, the altitude 2,960 metres (9,710 ft), and the deepest place 93 metres (305 ft). The lake is the cradle of the Mosuo people, who still live in matrilineal system and toil and multiply around it.
