Bipenggou Valley
Bipenggou Valley – The Little Switzerland of Western Sichuan

Nestled in Lixian County of Aba Tibetan and Qiang Autonomous Prefecture, Bipenggou Valley (Bipeng Valley Scenic Area) is one of the most spectacular natural destinations in western Sichuan. Located on the northern side of Mount Siguniang and only 198 kilometers from Chengdu, this pristine alpine paradise is widely known as the "Little Switzerland of Western Sichuan."

As part of the giant panda habitat and the core area of Miyaluo, Bipenggou offers visitors a breathtaking combination of snow-capped mountains, ancient glaciers, crystal-clear lakes, virgin forests, alpine meadows, colorful autumn foliage, and abundant wildlife. Covering 613.8 square kilometers, the scenic area ranges in altitude from 2,015 to 5,922 meters, making it a perfect destination for sightseeing, hiking, photography, skiing, and leisure vacations throughout the year.

A Year-Round Natural Wonderland
Bipenggou is famous for its distinctive beauty in every season.

Spring – A Paradise of Blossoms
Spring arrives later in Bipenggou than in the surrounding lowlands, creating a magical landscape where wildflowers bloom beneath snow-capped mountains. Colorful alpine flowers blanket the hillsides, while crystal streams and fresh mountain air make it an ideal season for nature lovers and photographers.

Summer – A Refreshing Mountain Escape
With average temperatures of around 15°C in July and August, Bipenggou is one of Sichuan's best summer retreats. The extensive primeval forests regulate the climate and provide cool, refreshing air. Visitors can stroll through tranquil woodlands, follow mountain streams, or simply relax amidst the magnificent natural scenery.

Autumn – A Symphony of Colors
From September to November, Bipenggou transforms into one of China's most beautiful destinations for autumn foliage. Golden leaves, crimson maples, and evergreen forests create a spectacular sea of colors stretching from the valley floor to the mountain peaks. Snow-capped mountains reflected in crystal-clear lakes form picture-perfect landscapes that attract photographers from around the world.

Winter – A Snowy Wonderland
Winter brings a magical atmosphere to Bipenggou. Snow usually lasts from late November until the end of March, with excellent snow quality and depths exceeding 60 centimeters. Thanks to its long snow season and convenient accessibility, the valley has become a popular destination for skiing, snow activities, and winter vacations in western China.

Spectacular Natural Attractions

Bipenggou is home to a remarkable variety of landscapes, including glaciers, waterfalls, alpine lakes, forests, and mountain peaks.

The scenic area consists of several major valleys and attractions, including:

- Tazi Valley Glacier Area

Ancient Glaciers and Mountaineering Adventures

Bipenggou boasts some of the most impressive ancient glaciers in China. Towering ice formations, dramatic cirques, glacial grooves, and sharp horn peaks vividly demonstrate the powerful forces that shaped this magnificent landscape over thousands of years.

The area surrounding Banjifeng Glacier is particularly popular among mountaineering enthusiasts. Every year, climbing teams from China and abroad come to challenge its rugged peaks. Nearby Dahuang Peak, rising to 5,922 meters, is the second-highest mountain in Aba Prefecture.

The famous trekking route connecting Changping Valley in Mount Siguniang to Bipenggou has been recognized as one of China's Ten Classic Hiking Routes and is often referred to as the "Alps of China."

Crystal Lakes and Magnificent Waterfalls

Water gives life to Bipenggou. Glacial meltwater, mountain springs, rain, and snowmelt flow through the valleys, creating countless streams, waterfalls, and alpine lakes.

Among the most spectacular waterfalls are:

- White Dragon Waterfall

These waters eventually converge into beautiful plateau lakes, each offering unique scenery throughout the changing seasons.

Longwang Lake
Located at an altitude of approximately 2,950 meters, Longwang Lake is one of Sichuan's Top 100 Scenic Attractions. Covering 334,000 square meters, the lake resembles a giant piece of emerald set among the mountains. The surrounding scenery changes dramatically with the seasons, from lush green forests in summer to fiery red foliage in autumn and pristine snow-covered landscapes in winter.
