The highlight of the scenic area is Huguangyan Maar Lake, a rare volcanic crater lake formed by a powerful volcanic eruption approximately 140,000–160,000 years ago. It is one of only three volcanic maar lakes in China and is recognized as one of the world's best-preserved maar lakes. The lake's sediment layers provide valuable scientific evidence for studying ancient climate change, making it an important site for geological research.
Huguangyan is also famous for its crystal-clear water, which possesses a remarkable natural self-purification ability. The lake has never dried up despite periods of severe drought or flooding, adding to its scientific significance and natural wonder.
Beyond its unique volcanic landscape, the scenic area is home to more than 20 attractions that combine spectacular natural beauty with rich cultural heritage. Visitors can explore the Leiqiong UNESCO Global Geopark Museum to learn about the region's volcanic history, visit the tranquil Lengyan Temple, admire fascinating volcanic geological formations, and discover historical landmarks such as the Li Gang Drunken Moon Statue, General Chen Jitang's Tomb, and Donggong Pavilion.
