Dali Ancient Town
Dali Ancient Town is the historic Heart of Yunnan.

Nestled between the majestic Cangshan Mountains and the sparkling Erhai Lake, moon night of Dali Ancient TownDali Ancient Town is one of China's best-preserved historic cities and one of Yunnan's most beloved travel destinations. Covering approximately 3 square kilometers, the ancient town has served as the political, economic, and cultural center of Yunnan for more than 500 years during the Nanzhao Kingdom and the Dali Kingdom.

Recognized as one of China's First National Historical and Cultural Cities in 1982, Dali Ancient Town perfectly blends centuries of history with the vibrant traditions of the Bai ethnic people.

A Well-Preserved Ancient City

Originally built during the Ming Dynasty on the foundations of earlier Nanzhao and Dali Kingdom capitals, the town retains its classic chessboard layout, often described as "Nine Streets and Eighteen Alleys." Ancient stone-paved streets, flowing spring water from Cangshan Mountain, traditional Bai courtyard houses adorned with colorful flowers, and centuries-old city walls create a timeless atmosphere.

The town is enclosed by four impressive city gates:

- South Gate (Chengen Tower) – the iconic landmark of Dali Ancient Town.
- North Gate (Anyuan Tower) – offering panoramic views and preserving elegant Ming Dynasty architecture.
- East Gate (Erhai Gate) – facing the beautiful Erhai Lake.
- West Gate (Cangshan Gate) – overlooking the magnificent Cangshan Mountains.
