Yihun Lhatso lake in Dege
Located between Manigango Town and Dege County in western Sichuan, Yihun Lhatsoi Lake (also known as Xinluhai Lake 新路海) is one of the most beautiful alpine lakes in the Kham Tibetan region. Sitting at an altitude of more than 4,040 meters, the lake lies at the foot of the magnificent Que’er Mountain and is surrounded by snow-capped peaks, glaciers, forests, and highland meadows.
Created by ancient glacial activity, Yihun Lhatsoi Lake combines breathtaking natural scenery with deep Tibetan religious significance, making it a popular destination for travelers exploring the remote landscapes of western Sichuan.

Alpine Scenery of Yihun Lhatsoi Lake
Yihun Lhatsoi Lake is located beneath Que’er Mountain, which rises to an elevation of approximately 6,168 meters. The mountain pass nearby reaches about 5,050 meters above sea level, creating a dramatic high-altitude landscape.
The lake has a maximum depth of around 15 meters and is surrounded by:
* Snow-covered mountain peaks above 5,000 meters
* Alpine grasslands
* Primitive forests
* Glacial landscapes
* Crystal-clear mountain streams
The Tibetan name Yilhun Lhatso reflects the lake’s sacred status, and the surrounding scenery represents the unique beauty of the Tibetan Plateau, where glaciers, forests, and grasslands exist together.

A Sacred Lake in Tibetan Culture
For local Tibetan communities, Yihun Lhatsoi Lake is not only a natural attraction but also a sacred pilgrimage site. Visitors can often see mani stone piles, prayer flags, and other signs of Tibetan Buddhist devotion around the lake.
Many Tibetan pilgrims come here to pray, make offerings, and enjoy spiritual reflection in the peaceful environment. The combination of the holy lake, snow mountains, and colorful prayer flags creates a deeply atmospheric Tibetan landscape.
Camping by the lakeshore is one of the best ways to experience Xinluhai. Under the quiet night sky, travelers can enjoy views of the glacier-covered Que’er Mountain reflected in the calm waters.

Yihun Lhatsoi  Nature Reserve
The surrounding area has been designated as a national nature reserve for the protection of the white-lipped deer. Covering an area of more than 190 square kilometers, the reserve provides a habitat for around 180 species of animals.
The protected ecosystem includes alpine forests, grasslands, wetlands, and mountain environments, making it an important area for biodiversity conservation on the Tibetan Plateau.

Manigango: Gateway to Yihun Lhatsoi Lake
About 11 kilometers from Yihun Lhatsoi Lake, Manigango is a small but important settlement along the western Sichuan–Tibet travel route.
Located approximately 98 kilometers west of Garze Town, Manigango serves as a transportation junction connecting several major routes:
* North to Shiqu County and Yushu Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture
* West to Dege
* East to Garze
Although small in size, Manigango plays an important role as a resting point for travelers and truck drivers crossing the Tibetan Plateau.

Yazer Monastery and Local Life
The social center of Manigango is closely connected with Nyingma School of Tibetan Buddhism traditions. Yazer Monastery, belonging to the Nyingma school, is an important religious site in the area.
The monastery, local settlements, and surrounding landscapes together offer visitors a chance to experience authentic Kham Tibetan culture away from the more crowded tourist destinations.

Visiting Yihun Lhatsoi Lake
Yihun Lhatsoi Lake is an ideal destination for travelers seeking untouched natural scenery, Tibetan culture, and high-altitude adventure.
The journey requires traveling through remote mountain roads, but the reward is an unforgettable landscape of:
* Sacred Tibetan lakes
* Snow-covered Himalayan peaks
* Ancient forests
* Traditional villages
* Peaceful highland environments
For those exploring the Kham region, Yihun Lhatsoi Lake is one of western Sichuan’s most impressive hidden gems.
