Lao Niu Wan Bend
Lao Niu Wan is situated at the border between Lao Niu Wan Town in Qingshuihe County, Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region, and Lao Niuwan Town in Xinzhou City, Shanxi Province, with the Yellow River serving as its natural boundary. To the south lies Pianguan County of Shanxi Province; to the north, Qingshuihe County of Inner Mongolia; and to the west, Zhungeer Banner on the Ordos Plateau, giving rise to the geographical feature known as "Three Cities at the Cockcrow." The area is narrow in the west and wide in the east, resembling a gourd shape; the Yellow River flows through this region before entering Shanxi, marking the beginning of the Jin-Shaan-Meng Grand Canyon where the Inner and Outer Great Walls converge.

Laoniuwan is located 13 kilometers north of the Wanjiazhai Water Conservancy Project Dam, situated 270 kilometers from Datong City in Shanxi Province, 166 kilometers from Shuozhou, 120 kilometers from Dongsheng District of Ordos City, 160 kilometers from Hohhot City, and 170 kilometers from Baotou City. Covering an area of 800 mu (approximately 53 hectares), it is traversed by National Highway 209, which connects Shanxi and Inner Mongolia, ensuring convenient transportation access. Nestled within the economic golden triangle region of northern Shanxi and Inner Mongolia, Laoniuwan serves as a key stop on numerous tourist routes and boasts excellent natural resources and environmental conditions. In winter, the area presents a unique snow-covered landscape along the Yellow River, where the snow-laden Loess Plateau and the frozen riverbed create a spectacular sight.

Laoniuwan centers around the ancient Laoniuwan Fort, completed in the third year of the Chenghua reign of the Ming Dynasty (1467), and now comprises an ancient architectural complex consisting of the fort and its barbican, covering a total area of approximately 5,800 square meters. The Wanghe Tower was initially constructed in the ninth year of the Xuande reign of the Ming Dynasty (1434) and underwent protective restoration in 2022; it currently stands as a brick-and-stone structure measuring 11.52 meters in height. During the Qing Dynasty, the area developed into a crucial water and land port for the "Westward Migration" movement, and the site preserves an ancient opera stage from the second year of the Xianfeng reign (1852). In modern times, leveraging the resources of the Yellow River and the Great Wall, Pianguan County in Shanxi Province and Qingshuihe County in Inner Mongolia have respectively developed the Laoniuwan Scenic Area and the Laoniuwan Yellow River Grand Canyon Tourism Area, complemented by facilities such as self-driving campsites and the Divine Ox Theme Park, forming a comprehensive tourism system integrating water, land, and air transportation.

In 2023, Laoniuwan Village was awarded the titles of "China Beautiful Leisure Village" and "Characteristic Farmhouse Tourism Village."
