Day 1: Kunming – Dongchuan Red Land
Your private tour guide and driver will meet you at your hotel in Kunming in the morning and begin your journey to the spectacular Dongchuan Red Land.
Before leaving Kunming, visit a local Pu’er tea venue to learn about one of Yunnan’s most famous tea traditions. During the tea ceremony, discover how Pu’er tea is produced and learn about the important role tea played along the ancient Tea Horse Road, a historic trade network connecting Yunnan with Tibet and other parts of Asia. You will also have time to taste different varieties of Pu’er tea and, if you wish, purchase some as a souvenir.
Afterwards, drive north to Dongchuan Red Land, approximately 180 km from Kunming. The journey takes around 2.5–3 hours, depending on road and traffic conditions. Enjoy lunch at a local restaurant along the way before continuing into the countryside.
Upon arrival, explore the famous red-earth landscapes around Dongchuan, where rolling hills and agricultural fields create dramatic patterns across the countryside. At Luoxiagou Valley, one of the most scenic areas of Dongchuan Red Land, enjoy panoramic views of villages, farmland and colorful hills stretching into the distance.
As the afternoon progresses, the changing sunlight brings out different shades of red, orange and gold across the landscape. If weather conditions are favorable, stay for sunset and capture the beautiful rural scenery, making this a particularly rewarding destination for photography enthusiasts.
After sightseeing, enjoy a simple local dinner and stay overnight in Dongchuan.

Day 2: Dongchuan Red Land – Kunming
Rise early this morning to experience sunrise over the Dongchuan Red Land. As the first sunlight reaches the hills, the red soil and cultivated fields take on changing shades of red, orange and gold.
Walk through the countryside and enjoy views of the patchwork farmland, seasonal flowers and traditional villages. Depending on the season, the landscape can look quite different throughout the year, while local farmers can often be seen working in the fields, offering an authentic glimpse into rural life in Yunnan.
After lunch, begin the drive back to Kunming. Upon arrival, your driver will transfer you to your hotel, marking the end of your 2-day Dongchuan Red Land tour.

Optional Extension: Xiaoshuijing Miao Village
For travelers interested in ethnic culture, this tour can be extended with a visit to Xiaoshuijing Miao Village, a rural Miao community in Fumin County, around one hour’s drive from Kunming.
The village is known for its Miao cultural traditions and Christian heritage. You can take a walk through the village, meet local residents and learn about their traditional music, instruments, songs and dances. A local church is also an important part of community life.
If your visit falls on a Sunday or during a traditional festival, you may have the opportunity to experience local singing or cultural activities. The exact schedule varies according to the local festival calendar and church events, so please check with us in advance.
