Orange Isle in Changsha
Orange Island Juzizhou Isle in Changsha along the Xiangjiang RiverOrange Island (Juzizhou), also known as Juzizhou Isle, is a famous scenic attraction located in the middle of the Xiangjiang River in Changsha, Hunan Province. Stretching like a green ribbon across the river, the island is one of the most iconic landmarks of Changsha and is renowned for its natural beauty, cultural heritage, and connection with Mao Zedong.
Since ancient times, Orange Island has been famous for producing high-quality oranges. It was also the setting of the historic scene “Snow Falling on the River at Dusk,” one of the “Eight Grand Sights of Hunan.” Today, the island combines beautiful landscapes with cultural attractions, making it a must-visit destination for travelers exploring Changsha.
Located between Yuelu Mountain to the west and Changsha’s urban area to the east, Orange Island covers an area of about 70 hectares. The island stretches approximately 5 kilometers from north to south and varies from 50 to 200 meters in width from east to west. It is recognized as one of the most famous inland river islands in China and is often described as the longest inland river island in the world.
From a distance, Orange Island resembles a green ship sailing through the center of the Xiangjiang River, guarding the ancient city of Changsha. During his youth, Mao Zedong frequently visited the island, where he walked along the riverbank, swam, and enjoyed the natural scenery. His famous poem “Qinyuanchun · Changsha” was inspired by the magnificent landscape of the Xiangjiang River and Orange Island.

Main Attractions of Orange Island
Orange Island is generally divided into three sections: the head of the island, the middle section, and the rear area. Each part features unique scenery and cultural attractions.

Mao Zedong Statue at Orange Island Scenic Area ChangshaStatue of Chairman Mao Zedong
The most famous landmark on Orange Island is the enormous marble statue of Mao Zedong, which depicts him as a young man. Standing prominently at the southern tip of the island, the statue reflects his youthful ambition and connection with Changsha. It has become one of the most recognizable symbols of the city.

Poem Tablet and Asking-Heaven Platform
At the head of Orange Island, visitors can find the Poem Tablet and Asking-Heaven Platform. A large white marble monument stands facing the Xiangjiang River, creating a magnificent riverside landscape. The front of the monument is engraved with the words “Head of Orange Island” written by Mao Zedong, while the back features his famous poem “Qinyuanchun · Changsha.”
The poem expresses a powerful spirit of youth, ambition, and determination, perfectly matching the grand scenery of the Xiangjiang River.

Watching River Pavilion and Riverside Landscape
The Watching River Pavilion, scenic corridors, and riverside viewing areas provide excellent locations to enjoy panoramic views of Changsha. Visitors can admire the contrast between the peaceful island landscape and the modern city skyline across the river.

Orange Groves and Natural Scenery
The middle section of Orange Island is covered with thousands of orange trees. In autumn, the trees are filled with golden fruits, creating a beautiful seasonal landscape that reflects the island’s traditional reputation as a producer of quality oranges.
The island also features open grasslands, riverside beaches, and peaceful walking paths, offering visitors a relaxing escape from the busy city. In summer, the clear waters and sandy riverbanks make it a popular leisure destination.

Fireworks Square and 100-Meter Fountain
The Fireworks Square and 100-Meter Fountain are among the island’s modern attractions. The fountain displays impressive water performances, while the square hosts various cultural events and celebrations throughout the year.

Travel Experience at Orange Island
With its combination of natural scenery, historical significance, and cultural landmarks, Orange Island offers a unique travel experience in Changsha. Visitors can enjoy a leisurely walk along the Xiangjiang River, admire the views of Yuelu Mountain and the city skyline, explore Mao Zedong’s historical connections, and experience one of Hunan’s most famous scenic areas.
Whether visiting for history, photography, sightseeing, or relaxation, Orange Island is an essential stop for travelers discovering Changsha and the cultural heritage of Hunan Province.
