Fenghuang County has a history dating back more than 2,000 years, with connections to the Spring and Autumn Period (770–476 BC). The present ancient town developed mainly during the Qing Dynasty, especially after its construction in 1704 during the reign of the Kangxi Emperor.
The town has preserved more than 300 cultural heritage sites, including ancient castles, city walls, temples, traditional residences, and stone-paved streets.
