The Charming West Hunan Show (Charming Xiangxi Show) is a spectacular large-scale song, dance, and bonfire performance held every evening at the Charming West Hunan International Cultural Square in Zhangjiajie, Hunan Province. Known as one of the three most famous grand folk performances in China, together with Impression Yunnan and Impression Liu Sanjie, the show offers visitors a fascinating insight into the traditional culture and mysterious customs of western Hunan’s ethnic minority groups.
The Charming Xiangxi Theater was built in 2001 and is located near the world-famous Wulingyuan Scenic Area. The performance is deeply rooted in local traditions, featuring simple yet powerful folk arts filled with the unique charm of Zhangjiajie. Through music, dance, drama, and stage effects, the show explores the history, legends, and daily life of the Tujia and Miao ethnic communities in western Hunan.

* Xiangxi Corpse Chasing Legend – originally a mysterious folk practice associated with local beliefs, transformed into a dramatic stage performance full of suspense.
* Tujia Maogusi Dance – one of the oldest traditional dances of the Tujia people. The word “Maogusi” means “hairy people” in the Tujia language. Performers cover themselves with straw and imitate ancient ancestors, symbolizing respect for their origins and heritage.
