In this hiking adventure, you will hike in the beautiful Karst mountain and rice terrace surrounded village of Miao and Dong ethnic minorities. It is a deserved tour mixed with both hiking and beautiful sightseeing.
Itinerary 1: Guiyang / Ditang / Sandu / Congjiang / Zhaoxing
D1，Guiyang-Ditang Hiking 2 hours
Arrive in Guiyang, your local guide will meet you at the arrival hall of airport,then transfer 2hrs to Diji, start your trek after lunch, hike past mountains featuring Kast landform for 2rs to Buyi village(elevation:800-900m), Discover the ancient villages and beautiful karst scenery along the way, then hike uphill about 30mins to a Karst cave camping base. Tonight, we’ll camp overnight inside the Giant Cave and have a diner of local food in the cave.
D2,Ditang-Sandu
You will head to Sandu，stop by the way to enjoy the sky bridge, visit SHUI Minority Intangible Cultural Heritage Center. Following the Master, you will experience learning how to write the SHUI pictophonetic characters, with history of over 2,000 years. It has about 400 words in shapes like oracle bone inscriptions, and it is mainly used in shamanism.
Then head toward the remote hilltop village of SHUI with a history of more than 300 years. It is a well-preserved SHUI village, the traditional culture and customs perched halfway up to the mountain surrounded by breathtaking nature. Visit village families and the chief will introduce their history and culture. Overnight at a boutique guesthouse.
D3, Sandu-Yimiao village Hiking 1.5 hours
Drive 1 hour along the Duliu river and explore a local Miao villagel of the lifestyle with woman’s festival costumes.
After lunch, drive 1.5hrs and hike 1.5 hours(elevation:500m-650m) to another Miao Village, passing through the Moon Mountain Nature Reserve. We can stroll through the small path and enjoy the mountain view, stay overnight at a boutique guesthouse with marvellous view of terraces.
D4, Yimiao-Congjiang Hiking 2.5 hours
Hike about 2.5 hrs through a gorgeous valley of rice-terraces scenery in the morning. Authentic Miao villagers have been passing on traditional knowledge of the harmonious co-existence of people and nature for generations. Lunch picnic of toast, snacks, fruits and wine.
Drive along Duliu River to the Miao village of Barn guesthouse. Visit local families, experience Miao culture, practicing Lusheng flute and Miao festival dancing.
Drive to Congjiang and overnight at Congjiang town(40minutes driving).
D5, Congjiang-Zhaoxing
Drive 2 hours to a Yao village, visit the local herbal medicine plantation area of paddy-fields.
A family lecture of Yao costume with it’s history, legends and culture after the lunch in a villager’s house. Then we experience the well-known“Yao ethnic herbal bath”which is very helpful for relaxing and recovering. A special local snack“youcha”(tea soup with fried rice) will be served after the Yao bath. Then drive about 2hrs to Zhaoxing Dong village.
D6. Zhaoxing-Guiyang Hiking 3 hours
Zhaoxing Dong Village is one of the largest Dong villages in Guizhou. Zhaoxing has over 800 households and more than 4,000 inhabitants. It lies in a basin surrounded by mountains and has one small river passing through. The serried stilted houses built on the hillside. They are all built of Chinese fir with black tile roofs.
In the morning you will head to Tangan Dong village, and hiking down from the rice terrace to Zhaoxing village, experience the local rice terrace, then drive to Guiyang airport after lunch ,end of tour.
Itinerary 2: Zhaoxing / Huanggang / Kaili / Guiyang / Huishui / Ditang / Guiyang
D1: - Zhaoxing Drive: 20 minutes
Upon arrival at Congjiang Station, the driver and guide will pick you up and take you to Zhaoxing, where you can visit the Zhaoxing Dong Village (experience the production of batik). Zhaoxing Dong Village is one of the largest Dong villages in the southeast of Guizhou, known as the "First Dong Village of Liping". Surrounded by mountains, the village is built in a basin among the hills, with a small river flowing through it. The most famous feature of Zhaoxing Dong Village is its cluster of drum towers, which are unique among Dong villages across the country and have been recorded in the Guinness World Records as the "Home of Drum Tower Culture and Art". There are five groups in the village, each with its own drum tower, flower bridge, and stage. The five drum towers have different appearances, heights, sizes, and styles, making for a spectacular sight.
In 2005, Zhaoxing was selected by "China National Geography" as one of the "Six Most Beautiful Rural Ancient Towns in China", and in 2007, it was jointly selected by "Travel + Leisure" and National Geographic (USA) as one of the "33 Most Alluring Tourist Destinations in the World".
D2: Zhaoxing - Huanggang Hiking time: 7km, about 3.5 hours Driving time: Total of 1.5 hours
In the morning, hike to Tang'an, a distance of about 7km, taking approximately 3.5 hours, with an average elevation of 700m. Part of the hike passes through forests and tea plantations, while another part follows the edge of rice terraces. Pass by the rice terraces and Xiage Village, and upon reaching Xiage, enjoy the coffee time with the view of the terraces. Then continue on to Tang'an, where you can experience local delicacies such as snails braised with local chicken.
In the afternoon, drive to Huanggang Dong Village, where you will be welcomed with the traditional Dong ethnic group's gate-lifting ceremony. In the evening, participate in the Dong ethnic group's drum tower bonfire party and experience the Dong ethnic group's grand song.
D3: Huanggang - Baiyan Hiking time: 7km, approximately 3 hours Driving time: 3 hours in total
After breakfast, we will drive for 2 hours to Langde Miao Village, where we can
experience the Miao ethnic group's twelve gates of wine and enjoy traditional songs and dances. This place boasts the most natural and primitive scenery, where we will deeply immerse ourselves in the authentic Miao culture, including the characteristic Lusheng dance, etc. In the afternoon, we will hike to the Xiangshuiyan Waterfall (3 hours, 1 hour on a hard-surfaced road and 2 hours on a stone-paved path through the forest), with an average elevation of 1000 meters.
D4: Baiyan-Guiyang Hiking time: 7km, approximately 5 hours Driving time: 4 hours in total
Travel by car to the detailed location, hike approximately 10km, taking about 4.5 hours to reach the Getou Miao Village, with an average elevation of 800 meters. Wander through the Leigongshan Nature Reserve, feeling the endless charm of nature. Along the way, you can see the protected plant, the thousand-year-old bald cypress, and if you're lucky, you might spot the Chinese giant salamander in the clear streams. In May, the mountains are covered with wild azaleas. Finally, arrive at Getou and have lunch at a villager's home. In the afternoon, take a car trip back to Guiyang.
D5: Guiyang-Huishui Hiking Time: 8km, about 5 hours Driving Time: A total of 2 hours for the day
Drive to Huishui, take a 10km hike through the karst peak forest, which takes about 6 hours, with an average elevation of 900 meters. Immerse yourself in the magnificent natural scenery of Guizhou among the continuous karst peaks, and then arrive at the 【Cave Tribe Camping Experience Base】. Located on a hillside, the cave tribe features complete cave structures, clear layers, and beautifully shaped stalactites. The trumpet-shaped cave entrance provides natural ventilation and transparent lighting, allowing you to open your heart and listen to the echoes from the depths of the earth! The cave entrance is an ideal place for swallows to build nests. In summer, the night fairies—fireflies often appear, and mischievous pets—the flying squirrels will occasionally visit! At night, we will experience the traditional Buyi ethnic flavor meal in such a uniquely cave environment, and spend a night in cave tent camping. You can enjoy the standard hotel bedding set, saving you the trouble of bringing your own camping equipment!
D6: Ditang-Guiyang
Free activities for breakfast, then return to Guiyang to end the trip.
