Day 1: Shangri-La | Ganden Sumtseling Monastery – Dukezong Ancient Town – Turtle Mountain Park
After breakfast, your guide in Shangri-La will meet you at your hotel and begin your exploration of Shangri-La, the heart of northwestern Yunnan and a gateway to Tibetan culture.
Your first stop is the magnificent Ganden Sumtseling Monastery, the largest Tibetan Buddhist monastery in Yunnan and one of the most important monasteries in the Tibetan region. Often referred to as the "Little Potala Palace," the monastery is perched on a hillside overlooking beautiful grasslands and offers a serene spiritual atmosphere. Wander through its magnificent prayer halls, admire colorful Tibetan murals and golden roofs, and experience the daily life of Tibetan monks while enjoying spectacular panoramic views.
Afterward, visit the historic Dukezong Ancient Town, a charming Tibetan settlement with a history of more than 1,300 years. Stroll along its traditional stone-paved streets, browse local handicraft shops, and discover the unique blend of Tibetan architecture and culture.
Continue to Turtle Mountain Park, where you can see one of the world's largest prayer wheels. Climb to the top for sweeping views over the ancient town and surrounding mountains before spending time at the lively Moonlight Square, a popular gathering place where locals often perform traditional Tibetan dances in the evening.
After the tour, your guide will escort you back to your hotel, bringing a memorable day of Tibetan culture and breathtaking scenery to a close.
