The train in Tibet plateau is the most famous train tour in China. The line includes the Tangkula Pass, at 5072m above sea level the world's highest rail track. More than 960 km, or over 80% of the railway, is at an altitude of more than 4000m, and 675 bridges were built in this route, and over half the length of the railway is laid on permafrost.

There are a few cities offer train tour to Lhasa, Beijing, Chengdu, Chongqing, Xiling, Lanzhou, Guangzhou and Shanghai. The train started from Beijing is the most difficult, and Shanghai to Lhasa is also not easy, comparatively speaking, Lanzhou, Xining, Chengdu and Chongqing are best place to take the train, especially for Xining, more train pass by it everyday.

And the sleepers of train tickets are always the hottest thing in the world. Besides the price of train ticket, tour companies will charge extra RMB 300.00-RMB 800.00 per tickets according to the season in order to get the ticket from broker.

Below we copied the time table of the trains for traveler’s information. And we also designed a classic tour route for traveler’s convenience.

D1 __Arrive in Xining
Arrive in Xining in the morning, meet your guide and make some city tours accordingly in Xining. Board the train to Lhasa in the evening. Night on train.
D2__ Train Tour
Arrive in Germud in the morning, and then the train will ascend the Tibetan plateau gradually. It will pass by the Gebi Desert, Mt. Kunlun, Mt. Takula, North Tibetan plateau and arrive in Lhasa in the late afternoon. It will be an exciting day for enjoy such a beautiful landscape. Meet your local guide at railway station in Lhasa, and transfer to hotel.
D3__ Lhasa City Tours
As winter palace of Dalai Lama, the Potala palace worked as a political and religious centre in Tibet. It also shows the wonder of architecture to the world. Standing on the top of Red mountain, it overlooked all over Tibet. We will explore in its maze. In the afternoon we will explore Grand Sera Monastery. If you are lucky enough, you can watch interesting Buddhism scripture debating by the monks. And we will also be guest in a local Tibetan family in the late afternoon
D4__ Lhasa City Tours 
The wonders of Tibet continue to unfold today. We begin with the holiest temple in Tibet, the 1,300 year old Jokhang Temple. Then we will have a leisure walk in famous Barkhor Street. This market has been providing all necessaries for the Himalayas for 1,000 years. It is also a good chance for your shopping! Drive outside the city to Drepung Monastery, which was the largest monastery in the world with 10,000 resident monks in its peak. In the late afternoon drop a visit in the Lhasa Tibetan Carpet factory. A Tibetan style dinner in Yak Restaurant and watching Tibetan dancing show in the evening will be the highlight of our trip!
D5__ Lhasa /Gyantse / Shygatse
Drive across the Ganbala Pass (4200m) will be a challenge to our physical ability, but we will be rewarded by the overview of beautiful Yamdok Lake immediately. After enjoyed the grassland and yaks en route, we will arrive in Gyantse at noon, then we will visit the extremely beautiful Palgor Chorten (Kumbu Monastery).  In the late afternoon drive to Sygatse.
D6__ Shigatse / Lhasa
As the base of Panchen Lama, Shygatse was regarded as the business and political centre of back Tibet. The Grand Tashilunpo Monastery will show us again about the wealth and power of Tibetan Buddhism. We will drive back Lhasa along wide Yalongzangbu river in the afternoon via the new road. Then you will be free to explore the city. 
D7__ Lhasa Departure   
Today you will fly to other Chinese cities by plane. End of Travel.
