Forbidden City - The Forbidden City is divided into two parts. One is the Outer Court and the other is the Inner Court. Temple of Heaven - As one of the three masterpieces, the Circular Mound (also called the Altar to Heaven), used for worshiping heaven in ancient time, is located at the southern end of the Temple of Heaven. The altar was built in 1503 of the Ming Emperor Jiajing, covering an area of 13,850 square meters. After that, he and his son forced hundred thousand soldiers and peasants to repair and expand the wall during their reigns. At the end of the Qin Dynasty, the current Great Wall of China has already taken shape.

Ming Tomb - During the Ming Dynasty (1368-1644), the Tianshou Mountain was regarded as the forbidden area since many emperors were buried there. The Emperors set very strict rules to protect the mausoleums of their ancestors. The civilians were prohibited to enter the mausoleum areas let alone destroy or rob the tombs. Cutting trees or grass and collecting firewood in these areas were also forbidden. Those who broke the rules were punished seriously or executed. Besides, there were guards who settled down there to guard the tombs or patrol the mountain areas.
